Other government donors

Coordination and collaboration between donors aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of development activities, making the best use of limited resources, avoiding duplication and making liaison easier for the partner government.  This fits with the principles of harmonisation and coordination in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and Accra Agenda for Action.

To date, Australia has developed partnerships with four key government donors. These include:

The United States of America

On 10 June 2010, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on international development coooperation was signed by the heads of AusAID and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This MOU will provide a framework for partnership aimed at helping developing countries achieve the Millennium Development Goals, move towards sustainable and private sector-led growth, reap the benefits of technological change and innovation, and escape conflict and instability. It capitalises on the commonalities between the objectives and approaches of AusAID and USAID, and establishes a basis for ongoing dialogue and cooperation.

It outlines nine initial areas of collaboration: Millennium Development Goals; climate change; multilateral effectiveness; growth; conflict / post-conflict approaches and fragile states; basic services including health and HIV/AIDS, education and water and sanitation; delegated partnerships; corporate performance; and aid effectiveness. A list of joint actions is developed annually.
